It's been a year since I've posted here..
I haven't been stitching at all since Tyler has been around, especially now that he's walking around it's just too hard to pay attention to him and needles and scissors! Soooo my will to stitch just hasn't been there, some days I feel the pull and I'm sure I will stitch again eventually, but for now it's just taken a back seat to my reading..

I took these the other night when he got in his new walker seat :)
He was so happy! But so far he only knows how to walk backwards in it lol

Wondering where I've been latley? This quiz ought to give you all some idea! LOL

I haven't been stitching much at all... I've been lucky to get a couple of hours a month which is why I haven't had anything to show lately. And my computer has been acting up majorly which is another reason I haven't posted in a while. I sure miss being online and reading everyones blogs and group emails.... but things just have been too crazy to spend much time trying to figure out what's wrong with this thing! Somedays (like today) it some-what works, but other times I can't even get it to turn on! For some reason Mindspring has taken over my IE and it seems to be stopping other programs from working or installing properly.. and I haven't been able to run the recovery disk either. It stops mid-way and tells me it can not continue. I don't understand :( I've ran all the scans... virus, adware, spyware... can't find any virus. I'm not the brightest crayon in the crayon box when it comes to computers anyway, but this thing is really over my head :(

I started this on Monday night, only stitched a little bit the last 2 nights and this is my progress so far. Below these words will be 3 little chicks coming out of their eggshells.

I actually feel guilty for stitching this, since I should be stitching my Charity ones that are late... but I need the extra push to get me going. The Looney Tune Foghorn Leghorn was driving me nuts and so every time I went to stitch I just didn't.. I got everything out, put the TV on, stitched a stitch or two and that was it!! It just sat in my lap till I put it away. I just couldn't will myself to stitch on it! There are a lot of color changes in the Target around his head.... and the fabric I choose is just too soft and the stitches just look all wrong to me.
I'm used to stitching on Charles Craft and I'm never satisfied with anything else I guess. I choose this fabric because it was all I could afford. I went to Wal-mart to get 2 small packs of white fabric and they didn't have the Charles Craft packs ... they only had the tubes which were more money and there would be a lot of wasted fabric that just wasn't big enough to stitch anything else on... But they had these small packs that are Wal-mart brand and were only .99 I guess I should have gotten the 2 bigger ones and spent the extra money :(

Anyway, This pattern you see here is called Spring is Peeping Out and is by San Man Originals. I thought it was just too cute and looked easy so I know it will give me that push I need to want to stitch again... so now I'll try and stitch on the Looney Tune again this weekend :)

I haven't been stitching hardly at all... my Grandfather came home from CA on Feb. 25th and has been in the hospital again since last Wednesday. He came home today, but is still not 100% yet. He seemed to be really uncomfortable all day today. Mom and I will be staying with him for the next few days so that he isn't alone.

Hopefully I'll get some stitching done and be able to post a photo soon.

My sister and my new little nephew have spent the last couple of weekends visiting us and I finally got a couple of photos online... Here he is sporting his new little Harley cap my Father got for him! Awww So cute :)

I'm glad to see that a lot of people have the same opinions about leaving pets outdoors 24/7.

Sorry if I came across as a bit aggressive, but at the time I was still steaming from the ears at how I was treated and stuck in the middle between these 2 friends. I've since spoken to the 2nd person in the situation and it seems that there was a slight bit of miscommunication between her and her friend. She told me she didn't tell her friend that I called her horrible that she told her exactly what was said -- that the situation was horrible.
The thing that gets me mad is why in the world would this 1st person get so mad at me when we already had the exact same conversation in the past. I was NOT the one that brought her up in the recent conversation with her friend, her friend was! So I'm just pretty much stuck in the middle here and annoyed as heck lol.

Point is I love animals and I won't ever leave them outside unattended all their life, I let my dogs out in the fenced in yard for a few hours on a nice afternoon to play, but never would I leave them out all day & night long in rain, cold, or heat. It's not right and there is nothing anyone could ever tell me to make me think otherwise.

So I'm in a mood! (and not a good one! LOL)

And no, this has absolutely nothing to do with stitching, but it's a subject I feel VERY strongly about.
Pets! In this case Dogs...

I'm not naming any names, only stating that I'm extremely upset not only at the situation but the way I have been treated for pointing out that there is a situation in the first place.

I will never understand why someone would even want a dog if they have no intention of ever and (I mean EVER) letting the dog into their home?

But for this person who asked my advice on how a dog should be cared for to turn on me is beyond me!
She ended up making it a whole big production with a mutual friend (who I had this same conversation with a year ago).

I have now been accused (by the 1st person) of being a backstabber and bad friend for expressing the same concerns to her friend...

As I said above this 2nd person came to me asking advice on dog care knowing that I've always had dogs in my life.. and she needed help on how to care for her new dog (that she ended up not keeping way)

In the middle of this conversation she said she wanted to just leave her dog (a medium sized long haird dog) outside all the time never to come in her home...
I told her that I thought this wasn't something she should do... and she then brought up (NOT me) that the 1st person leaves her 2 dogs outside, and I told this 2nd person that I think it's a terrible/horrible thing to leave your dogs unattended outside in the elements of cold, heat, storms, wild animals, and at risk of being abducted.

This 2nd person then went back to tell the 1st person that I called her horrible. OK now Please tell me, who is the back stabber here? hmmmm

So now just for the heck of it I will post some Dog Care info!

And also from the Humane Society website this is stated in the top 10 Dog Care rules list:
Give your dog proper shelter. A fenced yard with a doghouse is a bonus, especially for large and active dogs; however, dogs should never be left outside alone or for extended periods of time. Dogs need and crave companionship and should spend most of their time inside with their family.

I'll post a progress photo of my Looney Tune Foghorn Leghorn this weekend.. Having some trouble with the fabric since it's a store brand instead of my usual Charles Craft... I think after these Looney Tunes I won't ever get any other fabric since I tend to have trouble with all others even the expensive dyed ones! Maybe if I used a hoop I wouldn't notice it so much, but I like the stiff Charles Craft so much better then this Walmart stuff.

Here is my little Butterfly all finished up!

I'm really happy with the results and I'm glad I decided to change the colors.. Now it will be mailed off to be added to a special quilt that's soon to arrive at it's new home ;)

Hopefully I will have a photo of the completed quilt with all the stitcher's squares. It will be nice to see them all together (with my 3!)

It's been a busy weekend here, we had company again over night last night. I've barely had a moment to myself in the last 24 hours lol but I did manage to get this scanned in.

Thought I would have a finish tonight, but instead I spent most of the day organizing and doing laundry..... next weekend we are having company so I've gotta clear out the extra room as much as possible and get the room ready. So that didn't leave much time for stitching today... tomorrow I plan to take some time out in the afternoon and really get some stitching time in and watch my taped soaps!

In the mean time I found this on Amanda's Blog and figured I'd see what toy I'd be... hmmph guess I'm a wimp! ah well I guess that's what I get for hoping to come out something cute like a Strawberry Shortcake doll or a Care Bear!!

Fairy Flora I've wanted to stitch for a long time, but I won't even begin to think about stitching her until I get either Angel of Fantasy or Mermaid Heaven done and neither of those have even seen the light of day for a few months now!

Northern Dignity I had a framed photograph of and it got ruined, so when I saw this in a cross stitch pattern I thought it would be nice to have... though I didn't realize the background is all in half stitch and I'm leary about starting one like that since I know my stitches go in the opposite direction of how the chart shows and I'm not sure if it would look right if I stitched it the other way.. I just need to get brave and try one out!

Wannabee Bears/Butterflies Aren't they the sweetest little patterns! I just fell in love with them when a Yahoo group friend Jackie finished one up a while back.

Hooping It Up Now this is one naughty little kitty! LOL It was too cute not to get, I just love these attitudy Silly Snobs little black kittens.

This is what I decided to stitch this evening while watching my taped shows and then Veronica Mars..

I know I said I'd start the Looney Tunes, but I did do the first couple of stitches of that last night, but then tonight I remembered this cute little butterfly (freebie) and thought since it was small I'd do this up first :)

My issue.... I'm not sure I choose the right colors! The pink might be too bright.... what do you think? And the blue inbetween the purple and the green isn't really showing is it..... it should be brighter? I was going for a subtle change in shades, but I think I goofed a bit! It looked better before I actually started stitching lol

Let me know what you think! Tonight if I stitch anymore I'm going to work on the Looney Tunes and wait for some feed back :)

My first finish of 2006!!
This one is for a very special friend, but she doesn't know it yet ;-)

I found this freebie pattern online a few years ago... it was supposed to be stitched with one solid color using DMC Flower Thread. They don't make Flower Thread anymore, but to me the one color solid stitching was boring anyway.. so I choose variegated colors for the heart and made the leaves green the way they should be :)

Next up is the Looney Tunes squares for my Charity group. I signed up for 2 squares... Foghorn Leghorn which I will do first, I kitted up yesterday and cut the fabric so tonight I will start the first stitch! This one shouldn't take too long hopefully. And I'll be sure to take some progress photos as I stitch this time!

Some of you might remember this piece, I was working on it 2 years ago when I first started this blog! :) I've decided since Easter is coming up once again I want to work on it again! It's such a colorful piece and lately I've been feeling really BLAH and need some pretty colors to cheer me up... I think posting the photo will hopefully give me some incentive to work on it. I've still got so many others going, I have the charity ones to do and a special one for a friend still.

I'm forever saying I'll have them done soon and something always happens and I don't and then I feel bad/guilty and don't post here at all! Seems silly I guess lol.. so I am not going to say that I will have anything done soon ;) I will only promise that I will post more photos of my work as I go along no matter how slowly I am stitching! LOL

Here are the 3 projects I worked on during the month of Oct.

The Classic Car is for Charity and will be finished up and mailed off to Montana sometime this week. I'll be sure to scan a finished photo before I mail it off.

This pink one is a Rose by Semco and is for a special friend and needs to be mailed out within a week or so as well. I started this one just Friday night.

The last one is a project by San Man and is what I used in early Oct. to get me motivated to stitch once again thanks to my friend Teresa. I hope to get some work done on this one after I complete a couple more Charity squares.

And tonight I will go back to working on the Classic Car till it is finished. Now I'm off to answer some emails and then to stitch for about an hour or so before sleep. :)

So I've been missed!! Thanks Scully for leaving me a doodle board message :)

I just haven't been stitching at all! I really haven't stitched for over a month now! I've been doing a lot of reading instead. Its been hot and humid and my allergies have been pretty bad, I just can't get into stitching when my allergies act up because my eyes are sticky and blurry and I end up messing up because I can't see the symbols that well LOL But finally Fall is upon us! YAY! And I'm more then ready to begin stitching again... first up is my Classic Car piece since that is a Charity square for Love Quilts. I've also got to do 2 Looney Tunes sqaures for Love Quilts after that as well. Hopefully in between I will also get to work on Angel of Fantasy and Mermaid Heaven (photos in the blogs sidebar) once again. I know Jenn and Carol have probably given up on me with Mermaid Heaven, but I did work on her in July.. I just never took a scan of the progress yet. I'll get to that soon :)

We've had a wild couple of days here, we went to visit with my Grandfather at the cottage in New Hampshire on Sunday and while we were there he got stung by a bee (AGAIN!) and rushed to the hospital, but he is doing fine now. He gets so scared since he is allergic, but he had his epipen and used it right away and the only thing he had after that was swelling. But since the bite was on his face it made him really nervous to see his face swollen and therefore we had to make sure to keep watch on him for awhile.

I finally talked to my friend that I mentioned in the previous post, not much to say about it though. He says I didn't do anything, he's just busy. I'm not convinced that's all there is to it, but I'll take that answer for now. Though to be honest I'm not really up to being chatty with him now anyway.... I don't like to feel "tossed aside".

Haven't felt much like blogging lately....haven't been stitching much lately either. It's been TOO hot and humid here for the last couple of months, yesterday it was about 100 degrees and 90% humidity! I get pretty grouchy when I'm hot! lol

Anyone that reads my Blog knows that I mostly talk about my stitching and don't usually mention personal issues too often. But today I'm feeling down :(
It's been 2 months since I've talked to one of my closest friends, and I don't think he even realizes it! I miss him so much, we've got the kind of friendship that we can talk about just about anything! I don't know why he's been avoiding me lately. We've never fought about anything, but I can't help but feel I did something wrong. At first I have to admit I was avoiding him a little, sort of testing him because I was annoyed that he had forgotten my bday, but I was over that in just a couple of days LOL
I tried to IM him and call him a couple of times but he ignored me, but the more I tried the more I felt horrible wondering what I did. I know him well enough to know he'd tell me I was over-reacting that I shouldn't be upset about something I don't even know! And while I know he's right, it doesn't stop me from wondering what I did and why he's not speaking to me. It's gotten to the point now that I won't IM or call him again. I've done my part and have been brushed off... The one time I actually got a call through to him he got rid of me in less then a minute saying "I'll talk to you tomorrow" Tomorrow never came.

Ah well, guess there's no point in crying over spilled milk!!

My family arrived from CA for their 2 week vacation last night.. We had dinner and it was nice seeing them again. They'll be spending most of the time here up at our cottage in NH, so Mom and I will probably get up there sometime during the week.

A friend of mine sent me this and I thought I would share it...

THIS IS WHAT LOVE IS ALL ABOUT

It was a busy morning, approximately 8:30 am, when an elderly
gentleman in his 80's, arrived to have stitches removed from his thumb.
He stated that he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 am.

I took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would
be over an hour before someone would to able to see him. I saw him
looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another
patient, I would evaluate his wound.

On exam it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got
the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound.

While taking care of his wound, we began to engage in conversation
I asked him if he had a doctor's appointment this morning, as he was in
such a hurry.

The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home
to eat breakfast with his wife.

I then inquired as to her health.

He told me that she had been there for a while and that she was a
victim of Alzheimer Disease.

As we talked, and I finished dressing his wound, I asked if she
would be worried if he was a bit late.

He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not
recognized him in five years now.

I was surprised, and asked him. "And you still go every morning,
even though she doesn't know who you are?"

He smiled as he patted my hand and said. "She doesn't know me, but
I still know who she is."

I had to hold back tears as he left, I had goose bumps on my arm,
and thought, "That is the kind of love I want in my life."

Progress on Angel of Fantasy as of last night..

This fabric is SO beautiful, but you can't see all the sparkles in the photo :(
Thanks Mary! This was the best gift :)

So far this part of the project is all stitched with one strand of floss and so looks a bit light right now...
Next I think I will start on her wings which will be stitched with 2 strands plus blending filament (oh joy!) lol but in the end the troubles will be well worth it!

I finished the tulips Sunday night (July 11th) Now to mail it off to be quilted with other squares for a special friend :) I'm happy to get it finished, and it was a fun stitch, but I'm not sure I like how it looks with no backstitching in the piece? Ah well, I'm not going to change the pattern and mess it up! LOL I've done enough messing up on stitching this week as you'll soon read...

On Monday evening I had my wisdom tooth pulled, most of Tuesday I just tried to relax and had a really bad headache along with my jaw feeling pretty sore.
On Wednesday we went to New Hampshire since my Grandfather had been bitten by a bee (he's allergic) a few days before and was taken to the hospital. He is doing just fine now and they've gotten the swelling down.
Today my jaw is feeling really sore again and I hope I don't have a dry socket again!

I attempted to stitch Monday night after the tooth extraction.. lol let me tell you stitching with a headache and feeling out of it is not so smart! I also did a little stitching on Tuesday night and some during the car ride up to New Hampshire yesterday... WELL, I've had to undo every stitch I've done since Monday night! lol that was NOT my idea of fun lol lol

I bought a little kit up in NH at Walmart just to keep my hands busy on the ride home and to keep me from messing up Angel of Fantasy any further! (I added photo of what the finished kit will look like to the right in the side bar under "currently stitching") It's small so it shouldnt take too long to stitch up and I've had my eye on it for awhile since it so bright and colorful. But wouldn't you know I still messed it up! I just haven't been myself since Monday I guess :(

I'll get some progress photos up of Angel of Fantasy and the new kit sometime this weekend.

Today I got my package from 123Stitch
I can't believe how fast they ship out their orders.. This order was placed on Wednesday shipped out on Thursday and got here Today!!

This is my progress on the tulips as of 6/30/05, I've actually done a little more this past weekend while at our cottage in New Hampshire. But I won't bother with another scan until it's finished.

The 4th of July weekend was nice and we had great weather... But I once again forgot to take my digital camera!

I was supposed to begin working on Mermaid Heaven this past weekend with Jenn and Carol, but so far I haven't had a chance to stitch that much. I hoped to finish the tulips first and thought I would have that done, but our weekend ended up being much busier then expected! 3 BBQs and a great fireworks display!

The Folded Napkin ... A Truckers Story

I try not to be biased, but I had my doubts about hiring Stevie. His placement counselor assured me that he would be a good, reliable busboy. But I had never had a mentally handicapped employee and wasn't sure I wanted one. I wasn't sure how my customers would react to Stevie. He was short, a little dumpy with the smooth facial features and thick-tongued speech of Downs Syndrome. I wasn't worried about most of my trucker customers because truckers don't generally care who buses tables as long as the meatloaf platter is good and the pies are homemade. The four-wheeler drivers were the ones who concerned me; the mouthy college kids traveling to school; the yuppie snobs who secretly polish their silverware with their napkins for fear of catching some dreaded "truck stop germ"; the pairs of white-shirted business men on expense accounts who think every truck stop waitress wants to be flirted with. I knew those people would be uncomfortable around Stevie so I closely watched him for the first few weeks.

I shouldn't have worried. After the first week, Stevie had my staff wrapped around his stubby little finger, and within a month my truck regulars had adopted him as their official truck stop mascot.

After that, I really didn't care what the rest of the customers thought of him. He was like a 21 -year-old in blue jeans and Nikes, eager to laugh and eager to please, but fierce in his attention to his duties. Every salt and pepper shaker was exactly in its place, not a bread crumb or coffee spill was visible when Stevie got done with the table.

Our only problem was persuading him to wait to clean a table until after the customers were finished. He would hover in the background, shifting his weight from one foot to the other, scanning the dining room until a table was empty. Then he would scurry to the empty table and carefully bus dishes and glasses onto cart and meticulously wipe the table up with a practiced flourish of his rag. If he thought a customer was watching, his brow would pucker with added concentration. He took pride in doing his job exactly right, and you had to love how hard he tried to please each and every person he met.

Over time, we learned that he lived with his mother, a widow who was disabled after repeated surgeries for cancer. They lived on their Social Security benefits in public housing two miles from the truck stop. Their social worker, who stopped to check on him every so often, admitted they had fallen between the cracks. Money was tight, and what I paid him was probably the difference between them being able to live together and Stevie being sent to a group home. That's why the restaurant was a gloomy place that morning last August, the first morning in three years that Stevie missed work.

He was at the Mayo Clinic in Rochestergetting a new valve or something put in his heart. His social worker said that people with Downs Syndrome often have heart problems at an early age so this wasn't unexpected, and there was a good chance he would come through the surgery in good shape and be back at work in a few months.

A ripple of excitement ran through the staff later that morning when word came that he was out of surgery, in recovery, and doing fine. Frannie, the head waitress, let out a war hoop and did a little dance in the aisle when she heard the good news. Belle Ringer, one of our regular trucker customers, stared at the sight of this 50-year-old grandmother of four doing a victory shimmy beside his table. Frannie blushed, smoothed her apron and shot Belle Ringer a withering look.

He grinned. "OK, Frannie, what was that all about?" he asked.

"We just got word that Stevie is out of surgery and going to be okay."

"I was wondering where he was. I had a new joke to tell him. What was the surgery about?"

Frannie quickly told Belle Ringer and the other two drivers sitting at his booth about Stevie's surgery, then sighed: "Yeah, I'm glad he is going to be OK," she said. "But I don't know how he and his Mom are going to handle all the bills. From what I hear, they're barely getting by as it is." Belle Ringer nodded thoughtfully, and Frannie hurried off to wait on the rest of her tables.

Since I hadn't had time to rou nd up a busboy to replace Stevie and really didn't want to replace him, the girls were busing their own tables that day until we decided what to do. After the morning rush, Frannie walked into my office. She had a couple of paper napkins in her hand and a funny look on her face.

"What's up?" I asked.

"I didn't get that table where Belle Ringer and his friends were sitting cleared off after they left, and Pony Pete and Tony Tipper were sitting there when I got back to clean it off," she said. "This was folded and tucked under a coffee cup." She handed the napkin to me, and three $20 bills fell onto my desk when I opened it. On the outside, in big, bold letters, was printed "Something For Stevie. Pony Pete asked me what that was all about," she said, "so I told him about Stevie and his Mom and everything, and Pete looked at Tony and Tony looked at Pete, and they ended up giving me this." She handed me another paper napkin that had "Something For Stevie" s crawled on its outside. Two $50 bills were tucked within its folds. Frannie looked at me with wet, shiny eyes, shook her head and said simply: "truckers."

That was three months ago. Today is Thanksgiving, the first day Stevie is supposed to be back to work. His placement worker said he's been counting the days until the doctor said he could work, and it didn't matter at all that it was a holiday. He called 10 times in the past week, making sure we knew he was coming, fearful that we had forgotten him or that his job was in jeopardy. I arranged to have his mother bring him to work. I then met them in the parking lot and invited them both to celebrate his day back. Stevie was thinner and paler, but couldn't stop grinning as he pushed through the doors and headed for the back room where his apron and busing cart were waiting.

"Hold up there, Stevie, not so fast," I said. I took him and his mother by their arms. "Work can wait for a minute. To celebrate you coming back, breakfast for you and your mother is on me!"

I led them toward a large corner booth at the rear of the room. I could feel and hear the rest of the staff following behind as we marched through the dining room. Glancing over my shoulder, I saw booth after booth of grinning truckers empty and join the procession. We stopped in front of the big table. Its surface was covered with coffee cups, saucers and dinner plates, all sitting slightly crooked on dozens of folded paper napkins.

"First thing you have to do, Stevie, is clean up this mess," I said. I tried to sound stern. Stevie looked at me, and then at his mother, then pulled out one of the napkins. It had "Something for Stevie" printed on the outside. As he picked it up, two $10 bills fell onto the table.

Stevie stared at the money, then at all the napkins peeking from beneath the tableware, each with his name printed or scrawled on it. I turned to his mother.

"There's more than $10,00 0 in cash and checks on the table, all from truckers and trucking companies that heard about your problems. "Happy Thanksgiving,"

Well, it got real noisy about that time, with everybody hollering and shouting, and there were a few tears, as well. But you know what's funny? While everybody else was busy shaking hands and hugging each other, Stevie, with a big, big smile on his face, was busy clearing all the cups and dishes from the table. Best worker I ever hired.

And so I finished 2 of my goals for June! The bunny is finished as you can see above, and today the fabric for Mermaid Heaven arrived as well!
I am shocked at how fast 123 Stitch shipped out this order... I only placed it Thursday evening... Guess I know where I'll be shopping from now on :)
And it's the perfect shade of grey too! I'm so happy that I won't have to stitch her on cream aida like I thought I would. So now she's all kitted up and added with Angel of Fantasy to my stitching bag (or old lady bag as my sister calls it lol)

With any luck I should have a scan to show of the tulip piece this weekend, it really isn't that big and shouldn't take me more then a couple of weeks to finish up.. it's 56 x 56 stitches, but it's solid stitching.

That is what I hope to accomplish stitching wise for the month of June, I don't know if I will actually get to it all, but we are doing goals in my Yahoo stitching group put together by Ann-Charlotte.

While on the subject of stitching I have to say 123Stitch is AMAZING!! I placed the order for the fabric late Thursday afternoon/early evening... And yesterday afternoon I got an email saying the order has been processed and shipped already! So I guess I will be getting it Monday, I didn't expect to get it this fast! I've only ordered from Stitching Bits and Bobs and ABC Stitch therapy, well as much as I love Stitching Bits and Bobs sales and their shipping costs I've had to wait over a month for my order to be shipped the last couple of times! ABC Stitch shipped within a week, but their shipping was a lot higher. Anyway point to all that lol as long as my order is what I expect it to be then I think 123 Stitch will be my new fave online stitching store :)

123stitch & Cinderella story

I got the fabric I needed online today from 123Stitch I tried both AC Moore and Michaels hoping to be able to use the 40% off coupons but they just didn't have 16 count grey aida in the size I needed to start Mermaid Heaven . I also picked up 16 count black fabric to stitch Night Eyes .. Don't know when I'll actually get to that one, but I figured I might as well take advantage of the shipping rather then have to pay more to ship it another time.

I'm excited about starting Mermaid Heaven as a SAL with Jenn. I think it will be a great inspiration to stitch it together and show our progress here on our blogs.

I also need to start the SAL for Angel of Fantasy finally this weekend.... NO more excuses since I'm supposed to share my progress this Sunday! haha

This Cinderella story is just TOO funny! I got this email 2 times today and thought I would share lol

Cinderella is now 95 years old. After a fulfilling life with the now dead prince, she happily sits upon her rocking chair, watching the world go by from her front porch, with a cat named Bob for companionship.

One sunny afternoon out of nowhere appeared the fairy godmother. Cinderella said, "Fairy Godmother, what are you doing here after all these years?"

The fairy godmother replied, "Cinderella, you have lived an exemplary life since I last saw you. Is there anything for which your heart still yearns?"

Cinderella was taken aback, overjoyed and after some thoughtful consideration, she uttered her first wish: "The prince was wonderful, but not much of an investor. I'm living hand to mouth on my disability checks and I wish I were wealthy beyond comprehension."

Instantly her rocking chair turned into solid gold Cinderella said, "Ooh, thank you, Fairy Godmother."

My Home Ec. teacher in the 7th grade

After learning in school (a requirement) I ended up enjoying it and about a year later my Grandmother bought me a book of Garfield patterns.. That got the ball rolling and I've been stitching ever since.

4. What has been your most difficult cross stitch piece?
A wedding piece I recently finished this year... There was so much shading and confetti stitching in it.

5. Do you have friends that stitch?
I've got a lot of internet friends (some that have become real friends as well) that stitch... I used to have some friends I stitched with when I was younger but most I have lost touch with.

6. What is your favorite stitched piece?
The bunny in a carrot patch by Sam Hawkins I did about 12 years ago

7. What is your favorite fabric?
Aida in pastel colors

8. What is your favorite fiber?
DMC threads is the most common that I use, but I do love Six Strand Sweets!

9. What is your favorite needle?
Size 26 I John James Needles... And I love golden needles!

10. Do you prefer black & white or colored charts?
Only black and white for me please! Those colored charts make me dizzy and lose my place on the charts! haha

11. How many Works In Progress do you have at this time?
LOL! Do you really want to know this?? About 15-18 are started, but ones I'm actually stitching on is 5

You do the figuring by what I said above ;)

13. How many cross stitch charts/kits/mags do you own?
LOL again!! HA I couldn't even begin to count! I've got at least 3 years of The Cross Stitcher. 1 year of Stoney Creek, 1 year of Cross Country Stitching, a bunch of random magazines I picked up here and there... And at least 30 UK mags. And I haven't the slightest idea of how many leaflets I've got! But I've got at least 10-12 kits too. As any stitcher knows it's just as much about the collecting as it is the actual stitching when it comes to stash ;)

14. How much fabric do you have in stock at this time?
I really don't have too much fabric right now and could use some blacks, a grey and a bunch of 12" x 13" 14 ct. white fabric for Charity pieces.. LOL

15. Where is your favorite place to stitch?
In my nice comfy chair in front of the TV

16. What is your favorite time of day to stitch?
late evenings

17. How many pieces have you stitched in your lifetime?
I'm not sure... Maybe 30??

18. Do you give your stitched pieces away?
Sometimes if the person really deserves the piece! I've had many people not understand the love, time and effort that goes into it so I'm Leary about who I stitch for these days.

19. How many different fibers do you have in stock at this time?
All of the DMC including the variegated, and metallic and some of the rayon threads, a good amount of Six Strand Sweets, at least 30 Gentle Arts Sampler Threads, about 15 Week Dye Works threads, a couple of Anchor.

20. How many pairs of scissors do you own?
a special one that I use for cutting floss that I won in a stitching bingo game last summer, a sharp one for cutting the fabric, and my old floss one to cut all metallic threads with.

21. Do you use stitching enhancers (lights, scroll framesÃ…etc)?
I HATE hoops of any kind! I do like the daylight light bulbs though.

22. How many pieces that have been stitched but not yet framed or finished off in some other way do you have at this time?
oh about half of what I stitched lol

23. Do you have a craft/stitching room?
nope

24. Why do you stitch?
for a couple of reasons... It relaxes me and gives me something to do with my hands when I'm watching TV. Because I like the sense of pride when I finish something really beautiful and I like to be able to give a gift of love (something that is really part of me) to someone who really deserves it.

Back when my old best friend and I used to stitch together at least once a week.

I still haven't done any stitching today! Nor did I finish up my current book which I had hoped to take back to the library tomorrow...

We did however aquire a new pet! Which took up a lot of the evening.... A Cocketiel (like we really needed a 4th one! lol) but someone was getting rid of her and she really is a beauty! All white which is what we've been wanting.. We've named her Coconut and I'll get a photo in a few days when she is feeling less nervous in her new home.

Finishing SBQ Do you finish all your finished pieces? (pillow, frame, etc,) If so, how do you finish the pieces? If not what do you do with them?

To be honest....most of my projects are just sitting in a pile in a bag just waiting to be framed some day! It cost too much to frame professionaly these days and will only do that for really special projects like Angel of Fantasy when I get her finished. I've also wanted to start quilting someday as well, but haven't learned how yet. I have made some of my finishes into pillows and ornaments and given a few as gifts framed the easy way with stitcky board (I know a big no no!) But I figured nothing I've given will really be around in 50 years anyway lol

Freebie SBQ What is your opinion of Internet "freebies?"

I've found a few really nice freebies! But most are just ugly, small & boring! When the EMS Babies were freebies they were great and I looked forward to them all the time! EMS still has a lot of great freebies available but I still miss those babies! The Vermillion monthly freebies have been great as well (though I am not really impressed with this years theme). I also love some of the freebies from this Italian site!

I haven't been stitching as much as I'd like to....been really busy lately and haven't had much time and when I do my allergies have been acting up and its really hard to stitch when your eyes are itchy, watery and sticky!! :(
I did get a little done last night and early this afternoon and hope to do a little more tonight. I've given up trying to finish the Good Fortune kit by tomorrow! I just didn't work on it as often as I could of. I'll still get it done for my Mother it just won't be part of her Mothers Day gift this year either lol

I'll scan some photos of my work to show this week. And I will be starting the flower quilt square this week as well.

Stitching Question of the week

Do you "stitch with the seasons?" (This could be reflected by the colors that you stitch with, the themes that you choose, or even that during your favorite season you stitch more (or less) than in others.)

I do tend to start projects with a theme of a season in that season and sometimes when the season is over I put it down for something new ... but there are times I end up finishing things up in a different season. For instance right now I am looking to finish up an Easter project from last Easter.. I had put it aside with thoughts of finishing it this Easter, but that didn't happen since I had a deadline to meet for somethig else.

I think I stitch more in the Autumn & Spring.... When its warm enough to leave the windows open and feel the ocean breeze :) I really don't stitch as much in the hot summer months.

This weekend I didn't get any stitching time in like I had planned.... on Friday night late my Grandfather called with pains in his chest and was rushed to the hospital where he was until he was released this afternoon. They thought he had Angina, but it turns out he had a virus and ended up having panic attacks from being scared of the pain from the virus.

So the plan now is to finish the Good Fortune kit by next weekend...

Bunny on the moon for Love Quilts

I am now currently working on this piece, which will be a bunny girl sitting on the moon. And then I've also got the compainon piece to do with a bunny boy sitting on the moon. Once finished this one will go to Love Quilts and then be quilted with other squares and given to a critically ill child. We are starting a Stitch a long on my new Charity Stitching Yahoo Group to stitch more squares for love quilts with a theme for boys. These will be due in November so I will start one of those as soon as I've finished the 2 bunny ones.

Finally finished my wedding teddy bear on April 14th... I'm very pleased with the results, though it was a pain to stitch with all those shadings and confetti stitches.

I've had a hard time posting a message today...kept redirecting me to an error page.

Anyway I've been without the internet most of this week due to problems with the computer and also some family problems...plus that tooth that I had pulled a couple of weeks ago? sigh...thats not healing properly and I've had a really sore jaw and saw the dentist yesterday and he told me it was a dry socket and hopefully the healing process should begin now. Why can't I do anything the easy way? lol

Haven't gotten as much stitching as I hoped to get done for this month either...it's just been crazy lately. I've got an update in my photo album (you can find the photo in the first album titled WIP) of the quilt square for charity that I've started. It had solid colors and was easier to work on when my head was achy then the other quilt square which had sooooo many color changes. This one doesn't look like much more then a yellow blob so far..but what you will be looking at is the top of a half a moon. There will be a little girl bunny sitting on the moon once finished. There are 2 in the set the other one is a little boy bunny...they are really sweet and I hope to have them finished up with in a month or so.

I've finally got caught up with most of my group posts that I missed while offline, and figured I'd give an update here.

crazy couple of weeks

Been a crazy couple of weeks.

The family dog Wrinkles passed away about 2 weeks ago. He was 13 years old...Which was old for his breed. He is really missed around here :( It's so quiet at feeding time, Taylor hasn't been eating as easy since he's used to eating when Wrinkles ate and still looks for him all over the house. But Taylor is enjoying his freedom! They always had to be kept separated with baby gates because of their sizes and their play was just too rough.

Then shortly after that I had a horrible toothache in my wisdom tooth which was broken and twisted ... A few days later I came down with an awful cold that lasted a week and really hit me hard ... Before I even got over that I went to the dentist to have the tooth looked at and he pulled it out right there no warning no coming back lol I guess that was a good thing since I probably wouldn't of wanted to think about having to go back and get it pulled.
That was Tuesday and I'm still in SO much pain! Tuesday night I had the worst migrain and ended up feeling really sick, and couldn't take anything for it but Tylenol extra strength. I had refused the good drugs ;) since I didn't really think I'd need them. I hate the way they make me feel anyway so I'm dealing with the pain :(
Still got an on and off again migrain and now my jaw is really achy. I don't remember this happening when I had the top 2 wisdom teeth out 11 years ago ... but then again those weren't impacted teeth like this one was, he actually had to cut the bone to get this one out.. so there are little stitches in there this time. OUCH!!

In between all that my Grandfather came home from his 3 month vacation visiting my Uncle in CA. So we spent some time with him getting him settled in. He was a little disoriented the first day or so.. forgetting where things were. But he's all settled in and happy now :)

Well given all the crap that's gone on, I've hardly had time to keep up with blogs and group mail or watching my soaps and stitching :( So I had to get an extention on the quilt block I'm working on. I did upload a WIP scan of my most current project though like promised a month or so ago.

OK to bed I go...I'm feeling achy still and really tired all of a sudden (to bed at 11:30 on a Saturday night!!?) sigh

I've gotten this email so many times in the past few years... and every time I do it makes me cry. So I decided to share it here :)
I've been stitching on my special quilt a lot and it will be done soon, hopefully by next weekend.
I then signed up for a few more quilt squres, 1 for a group owner of another group I'm in, and 3 for children with terminal illnesses. The first one I can't talk about since its a surpise, but one of the quilts for the children will be a Sanrio piece "Hello Kitty" and the other 2 will be a boy and a girl bunny sitting on the moon.
All 4 are much simpler then the one I've been doing now and I should I have them all finished up before May.

We are buried under 3 feet of snow!

They just said on the news that we've had over 30 inches of snow and at least 10 more inches is expected before this storm is over!! They've already cancelled school for the next 2 days... I'm sure all the kids are happy :) The last time I remember then doing that was when I was a Sr. in 1993.. we had SO many storms that year and none of them were even close to how bad this one is!

I've taken some photos of our street, stairs and yard this morning.
Can you believe they still have not yet plowed since this storm began yesterday evening around 5:30??

Now off to take a warm shower (brrrrrr so cold out there!) and make some nice hot soup and hot cocoa! Then to do some stitching and catch up on Fridays soap operas and the 2nd episode of Point Pleasant, which by the way was actually very good!

Got some stitching done last night and hope to get some more done this evening... I'm getting excited about this special project the group is doing :) Mine is coming out so pretty! Maybe I'll take a scan this weekend and show it off.... even though I said I wouldn't, I don't think this person reads my blog anyway and even if she did she wouldn't know it was for her lol

I finished 2 books last week that I started last summer. Someone To Watch Over me by Judith McNaught and Face of Deception by Iris Johansen. Both were very good, although I feel that Judith McNaughts earlier books were much better.
I started a new book... Dance Upon the Air by Nora Roberts and I'm just loving it! It's about 3 witches from the end of the 1600's who created an island to escape being burned at the stake during the Salem witch Trials. Then over 300 years later the decendants of these witches find each other again by fate to come together once again on the island called Three Sisters Island. There are 3 books in the series and I'm thinking I'll read all 3 this year.

Last night on Fox was the start of a new show called Point Pleasant... I taped it, It looked interesting in an eerie sort of way. I'll be sure and post what I think of it tomorrow!

My current stitching project is coming along nicely :) I can't wait till I'll be able to show it off. But since this is a gift that won't be given till June you'll have to wait! lol
So far I haven't really done too much since there are 3 parts to this with TONS of confetti stitching which those of you that stitch know that's a pain in the butt! One stitch here and one stitch there. If I had paid closer attention to the pattern before I started this I may of decided on something else... But I guess its just as well since its a special quilt square and it will look really nice when finished up :)
I wasn't feeling well most of last week and this weekend so I didn't do much stitching and last night I decided to pick it up again and just do another part of the pattern since my head was still achey.

Angel of Fantasy hasn't been started yet since I still haven't received the Krenik floss I ordered Dec. 29th. I'm getting annoyed with the company, they are usually so good about quick shipping, but they don't have some of the items in stock right now. They didn't even email to let me know, which I personally feel is not good business. I had to go into my order status to find out myself. But I will show updates on that one at least once a month hopefully more often when I do get started on her.

I've been reading other blogs and have seen mention of Gmail. It was my understanding that this email service was not working yet?? Someone fill me in! I'm curious on how it works and how you get it. I think it would be great for Yahoo group mail since there are sometimes so many emails that come in and fills up my AOL email so quickly.

As you all can see I've tried to get a new look on my blog... Didn't really know what I was getting into lol I'm still working on it, but what do you all think?? I love the colors and of course the butterfly pictures :)

Angel of Fantasy... isn't she beautiful??!!
This will be my main project for myself this year, but I won't be able to start her till after I finish the project mentioned below. I am now waiting for an order for special floss for her.... she has 11 sparkly blending filament floss and also 4 colors of beads and gold metallic threads. This will be a huge accomplishment when finished.

Finished this January 3rd .... I should of posted it sooner.
I've just been so behind on everything, gonna try and post more updates and finishes this year though!
Right now I'm working on a secret project that needs to be mailed by March 1st so I won't be able to post a pic of that till the summer time when it has been made into a quilt along with the squares from other stitchers in one of my groups and then delivered finally to it's new home :)
I can't say anything more about this incase this member reads my blog. But I hope to get a photo of it completly finished and made into a quilt as well. It will be nice to see everyones stitching all together in a special piece for a special friend :)

'Twas the night before Christmas Stitchers version!!!!

'Twas the night before Christmas, and, oh, I was weary.
My stitching unfinished, my eyes getting bleary.
The stockings weren't finished, the chimney was bare.
And I knew that morning soon would be there.

My children and husband were tucked in their beds,
But visions of backstitches ran through my head.
I'd stitched ornaments and presents and gifts by the ton,
And now, I was finally, almost, almost done.

As I poised my needle for one more backstitch,
I heard something outside that made my hand twitch.
I jumped up from my stitching, and flew to the door,
Pressed my eye to the peephole, tip-toed off the floor.

My stitching forgotten, I peered into the night.
When suddenly, I got a terrible fright.
On my porch appeared Santa, holding his sack.
He knocked softly, and I took a giant step back.

I unlocked the deadbolt, and let Santa in,
He entered and gave a mischievous grin.
"Hope you don't mind if I come in the door?"
"Coming down the chimney can be quite a chore."

He said, "You're up late. Still working I see."
"Do you know how tired you're going to be?"
"I know, Santa," I said, with a sigh,
"But I'm still backstitching the stars in the sky,"

"And the fields on that stocking look blobby you know,
I need to backstitch the drifts in the snow.
I've been stitching and stitching and stitching, no rest.
I just tried to finish stitching too much, I guess."

"I know what you mean," he said with a smile.
"This is my busiest time of the year, by a mile."
He stooped down by the tree, and he opened his sack,
And began to pull presents out of his pack.

"I've got some things here I think you might like,
An oak stitching frame, and a brand new Ott-Light.
A bundle of floss, and a great big mat cutter,"
I smiled and felt my heart go a-flutter.

He put down gifts for us all, then he waved his right hand.
"Go to bed," he said, glancing at my floor stand.
He gave me a wink, and stepped out the door.
I just stood there a moment, glued to the floor.

After he'd left, I turned back to my chair,
Picked up the stockings, and started to stare.
The backstitching was done! The stars lit the sky!
And on my son's stocking angels sung on high.

I ran to thank Santa for this final gift,
And watched as his sleigh started to lift.
I heard him exclaim as he pulled out of sight,
"Merry stitching to all, and to all a good night!"

Stitching update:
I finished my 2nd Halloween L*K over a week ago.. I'll post a pic of the piece right away.
I'm now finishing up Boo! The 3rd Halloween piece (actually the first one I started, I had an update a while back with the kitty in the ghost costume)
I wasted too much time on Halloween this year and didn't do anything for Christmas :(

There was a freebie on the San Man Originals message board (Sandy is giving out 12 for the 12 days of Christmas.. You should go join!!) anyway, there's one called Hanging out till the holidays and its 5 ornaments hanging on a tree branch :) I printed it out with hopes of doing it, but if I don't finish my Halloween on today or tomorrow there is no way I'll finish that one in time for Christmas. It's a small freebie, but I think I've proved I'm the slowest stitcher on earth! Well truthfully I'm always sidetracked when I sit to stitch, phone, tv...whatever lol

But I promise to have Boo! finished up before Christmas!

I THINK SANTA CLAUS IS A WOMAN

I hate to be the one to defy sacred myth, but I believe he's a she.
Think about it. Christmas is a big, organized, warm, fuzzy, nurturing social
deal, and I have a tough time believing a guy could possibly pull it all
off!
For starters, the vast majority of men don't even think about
selecting gifts until Christmas Eve. It's as if they are all frozen in some
kind of Ebenezerian Time Warp until 3 p.m. on Dec. 24th, when they -- with
amazing calm -- call other errant men and plan for a last-minute shopping
spree.
Once at the mall, they always seem surprised to find only Ronco
products, socket wrench sets, and mood rings left on the shelves. (You might think this would send them into a fit of panic and guilt, but my husband
tells me it's an enormous relief because it lessens the 11th hour
decision-making burden.) On this count alone, I'm convinced Santa is a
woman. Surely, if he were a man, everyone in the universe would wake up
Christmas morning to find a rotating musical Chia Pet under the tree, still
in the bag.
Another problem for a he-Santa would be getting there. First of all,
there would be no reindeer because they would all be dead, gutted and
strapped on to the rear bumper of the sleigh amid wide-eyed, desperate
claims that buck season had been extended. Blitzen's rack would already be
on the way to the taxidermist.
Even if the male Santa DID have reindeer, he'd still have
transportation problems because he would inevitably get lost up there in the
snow and clouds and then refuse to stop and ask for directions. Add to this
the fact that there would be unavoidable delays in the chimney, where the
Bob Vila-like Santa would stop to inspect and repoint bricks in the flue. He
would also need to check for carbon monoxide fumes in every gas fireplace,
and get under every Christmas tree that is crooked to straighten it to a
perfectly upright 90-degree angle.

Other reasons why Santa can't possibly be a man:

a.. Men can't pack a bag.
b.. Men would rather be dead than caught wearing red velvet.
c.. Men would feel their masculinity is threatened...having to be seen
with all those elves.
d.. Men don't answer their mail.
e.. Men would refuse to allow their physique to be described even in
jest as anything remotely resembling a "bowlful of jelly."
f.. Men aren't interested in stockings unless somebody's wearing them.
g.. Having to do the Ho Ho Ho thing would seriously inhibit their
ability to pick up women.
h.. Finally, being responsible for Christmas would require a commitment.

I can buy the fact that other mythical holiday characters are men...

a.. Father Time shows up once a year unshaven and looking ominous.
Definite guy.
b.. Cupid flies around carrying weapons.
c.. Uncle Sam is a politician who likes to point fingers.

Any one of these individuals could pass the testosterone screening test.
But not St. Nick. Not a chance. As long as we have each other, good will,
peace on earth, faith and Nat King Cole's version of "The Christmas Song,"
it probably makes little difference what gender Santa is.

I just wish she'd quit dressing like a guy!!!

Dog's Rules For Christmas

1. Be especially patient with your humans during this time. They may appear to be more stressed-out than usual and they will appreciate long comforting dog cuddles.

2. They may come home with large bags of things they call gifts. Do not assume that all the gifts are yours.

3. Be tolerant if your humans put decorations on you. They seem to get some special kind of pleasure out of seeing how you look with fake antlers.

4. They may bring a large tree into the house and set it up in a prominent place and cover it with lights and decorations. Bizarre as this may seem to you, it is an important ritual for your humans, so there are some things you need to know: Don't pee on the tree... Don't drink water in the container that holds the tree... Mind your tail when you are near the tree... If there are packages under the tree, even ones that smell interesting or that have your name on them, don't rip them open... And Don't chew on the cord that runs from the funny-looking hole in the wall to the tree.

5. Your humans may occasionally invite lots of strangers to come visit during this season. These parties can be lots of fun, but they also call for some discretion on your part: Not all strangers appreciate kisses and cleans. Don't eat off the buffet table. Beg for goodies subtly. Be pleasant, even if unknowing strangers sit on your spot on the sofa -- they don't know any better. Don't drink out of glasses that are left within your reach unless you can get away with it...

6. Likewise, your humans may take you visiting. Here your manners will also be important: Observe all the rules in #4 for trees that may be in other people's houses. (4a is particularly important) Respect the territory of other animals that may live in the house. Be nice to the kiddies. Turn on your charm big time.

7. A big man with a white beard and a very loud laugh may emerge from your fireplace in the middle of the night. DO NOT BITE HIM!!!

Chick Chat Questions For Nov. 23rd
Thanksgiving...

1. Is It Really All About The Bird?:
Not even close! Thanksgiving has always been my favortie holiday because it seems to be the last one that isn't all about something else. No Santa with presents No Easter bunny with eggs(and these days Easter bunnies bring way more then eggs!) Thanksgiving is about family coming together and a day to really think about your life and what it means to you.

2. Plain Mashed Potato's or With Gravy?:
with gravy of course!!

3. White Meat or Dark Meat?:
White meat for me please! I really hate dark meat..

4. Apple Pie or Pumpkin Pie?:
Nothing better then pumpkin custard pie :)

5. Green Bean Casserole A Do or A Don't?:
A don't in our house.... it's funny my Mom and I had that conversation the other night, we think the whole greenbean casserole tradition is actually just something that was started commercially to sell campbells soup and those fried onion thingys.

The Parrot

A young man named John received a parrot as a gift. The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary. Every word out of the bird's mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity. John tried and tried to change the bird's attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could think of to "clean up" the bird's vocabulary. Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at the parrot. The parrot yelled back. John shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even ruder. John, in desperation, threw up his hand, grabbed the bird and put him in the freezer. For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed. Then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for over a minute. Fearing that he'd hurt the parrot, John quickly opened the door to the freezer. The parrot calmly stepped out onto John's outstretched arms and said,

"I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I'm sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior."

John was stunned at the change in the bird's attitude. As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, the bird continued,

"May I ask what the turkey did?"

This is a Lizzie Kate design called Trick or Treat.. I finished it Sunday night :) It just needs a button attatched to the string in her hand... Supposed to be a moon button, but I'm not understanding what the moon has to do with the little witch behind candy corn, so I'm not sure yet what button I will attatch to it! I'm now doing the companion piece called Plumpkin... I might make them into pillows for next year, or maybe get a few Halloween pieces together and make a little wall hanging, not sure just yet :)
But the stitching is finished on this one anyway!

I've come down with an awful cold :( This is the only thing that I hate about the fall season.. I hope I'm feeling better by Saturday becuase I'm supposed to meet Ann-Charlotte from Sweden on her first full day of vacationing here in the US. I'm really excited about this! And of course my usual dread of meeting someone lol always think they will hate me or something.. I'm sure it will be fine, although I'm still questioning my last meet up (won't go into details about it since its all in my mind anyway lol)

I got this forward the other day from Dawn and thought I would share it here with everyone.. I just love the message it sends out.

THE CAB RIDE

Twenty years ago, I drove a cab for a living. When I arrived at 2:30 a.m., the building was dark except for a single light in a ground floor window. Under these circumstances, many drivers would just honk once or twice, wait a minute, then drive away.

But, I had seen too many impoverished people who depended on taxis as their only means of transportation. Unless a situation smelled of danger, I always went to the door. This passenger might be someone who needs my assistance, I reasoned to myself.

So I walked to the door and knocked. "Just a minute", answered a frail, elderly voice.

I could hear something being dragged across the floor.

After a long pause, the door opened. A small woman in her 80's stood before me. She was wearing a print dress and a pillbox hat with a veil pinned on it, like somebody out of a 1940s movie. By her side was a small nylon suitcase. The apartment looked as if no one had lived in it for years. All the furniture was covered with sheets. There were no clocks on the walls, no knickknacks or utensils on the counters. In the corner was a cardboard box filled with photos and glassware.

"Would you carry my bag out to the car?" she said. I took the suitcase to the cab, then returned to assist the woman. She took my arm and we walked slowly toward the curb. She kept thanking me for my kindness.

"It's nothing", I told her. "I just try to treat my passengers the way I would want my mother treated".

"Oh, you're such a good boy", she said.

When we got in the cab, she gave me an address, then asked, "Could you drive through downtown?"

"It's not the shortest way," I answered quickly.

"Oh, I don't mind," she said. "I'm in no hurry. I'm on my way to a hospice".

I looked in the rear-view mirror. Her eyes were glistening.

"I don't have any family left," she continued. "The doctor says I don't have very long."

I quietly reached over and shut off the meter. "What route would you like me to take?" I asked.

For the next two hours, we drove through the city. She showed me the building where she had once worked as an elevator operator. We drove through the neighborhood where she and her husband had lived when they were newlyweds. She had me pull up in front of a furniture warehouse that had once been a ballroom where she had gone dancing as a girl. Sometimes she'd ask me to slow in front of a particular building or corner and would sit staring into the darkness, saying nothing.

As the first hint of sun was creasing the horizon, she suddenly said, "I'm tired. Let's go now."

We drove in silence to the address she had given me. It was a low building, like a small convalescent home, with a driveway that passed under a portico. Two orderlies came out to the cab as soon as w e pulled up. They were solicitous and intent, watching her every move. They must have been expecting her.

I opened the trunk and took the small suitcase to the door. The woman was already seated in a wheelchair. "How much do I owe you?" she asked, reaching into her purse.

"Nothing," I said.

"You have to make a living," she answered.

"There are other passengers," I responded.

Almost without thinking, I bent and gave her a hug. She held onto me tightly. "You gave an old woman a little moment of joy," she said. "Thank you."

I squeezed her hand, then walked into the dim morning light. Behind me, a door shut. It was the sound of the closing of a life. I didn't pick up any more passengers that shift. I drove aimlessly lost in thought. For the rest of that day, I could hardly talk.

What if that woman had gotten an angry driver, or one who was impatient to end his shift? What if I had refused to take the run, or had honked once, then driven away? On a quick review, I don't think that I have done anything more important in my life.

We're conditioned to think that our lives revolve around great moments. But great moments often catch us unaware-beautifully wrapped in what others may consider a small one.

PEOPLE MAY NOT REMEMBER EXACTLY WHAT 'YOU DID, OR WHAT YOU SAID, ~BUT THEY WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER HOW YOU MADE THEM FEEL.

I finally finished my summer exchange!!!

I am so happy to be done with it.... I will scan a pic and show it as soon as I can. I am going to mail it out to my partner on Wednesday so in about a week I should be able to show my picture :)

Now I am going to be working on a few stitch a longs and finish up that little Halloween kitty. Starting with the Fantasy Teddy bear.. been anxious to start working on that. I also am going to start working on my Mermaid Heaven again on Sundays just to get some work done on her. I know she will be an on going project for a long long time since she is my first attempt at a large project. But I think she's the perfect piece to keep me inspired for a long period of time.

For some reason my post from yesterday hasn't come through yet ... I hope I didn't mess something up in the HTML some how and that this one comes through!

Thread organization:

plastic bobbins, yes or no?
I use cardboard bobbins.. the plastic ones are nice, but I've gotten tons of the card board ones over the years and I don't want to rewind all the floss that's already done.

How do you organize your threads?
I've got 5 thread boxes with a few of each of the DMC colors.
Then I've got a few smaller boxes that hold my six strand sweets, week dye works, gentle arts sampler threads, dmc rayon, dmc metallics, silks, and krenik metallics.

If I Could

I wanted to share that link.. The messages on that site are really beautiful.
I'm too tired to really give much of an update tonight, my grandfather hurt his knee again today and I spent the entire day taking care of him. He felt a little better as the day went on, but was really nervous about the possibility of surgery since he doesn't have a strong heart. Hopefully he will be feeling better tomorrow after we take him to get his cortisone shots.

Is it Friday already?? When did that happen?? Wasn't it just Monday like yesterday??
I still haven't finished my Summer Exchange and here it is the end of the 3rd full day of Fall ... I don't know why I get like this, but when I have to stitch something for these exchanges I feel as if I HAVE to stitch and then I don't want to.
It's almost done now though, maybe 2 or 3 more hours of stitching left, including the back stitching and then I can start on my SALs and go back to my Halloween kitty.

No stitching updates like I promised, had a busy weekend. Had the stitching chat and then company on Saturday. Then I was out with family on Sunday. I will get to stitching tonight tho while watching some taped shows..

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the coffee...

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar.

He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was. The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else.

He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous "yes." The
professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

"Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar
represents your life. The golf balls are the important things --- your God, your family, your
children, your health, your friends, and your favorite passions --- things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, and your car. The sand is everything else-the small stuff. "If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal." Take care of the golf balls first, the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented.
The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend."

I worked on my summer exchange last night and a little while so far tonight and I plan to work on it more tonight when I'm watching my shows...
I watched the Tony Danza show last night (it's aired at 1 am here) and I have to say I really enjoyed it! I never like talk shows but I've always liked him and the show is really entertaining, he's got a lot of charisma. Gotta love that Brooklyn NY accent :)

Not much to update about my stitching yet this week... I've really cracked down though and have got some work done on that exchange I've been putting off for awhile now lol I finished the 3rd of 4 blocks last night and got a little of the 4th one done. Answer: One degree. If you said, "360 degrees" or anything other than "one degree," you are to be congratulated on getting this far, but you are obviously out of your league. Turn in your pencil, and exit the room. Everyone else proceed to the final question.

6. Without using a calculator --You are driving a bus from London to Milford Haven in Wales. In London, 17 people get on the bus. in Reading, six people get off the bus, and nine people get on. In Swindon, two people get off and four get on. In Cardiff, 11 people get off and 16 people get on. In Swansea, three people get off and five people get on. ASPCA, Animals depend on people for their needs and the thought of anyone abusing their pets turns my stomach and the thought of what happens when they go to shelters and can't find homes also just breaks my heart... so the more money they have the better those animals are cared for.

Italy since I'm Italian and would love to see the country.. I would love to own a craft store.

Too Busy for a Friend... (Thanks Dawn for sharing this story with me)

One day a teacher asked her students to list the names of the other students in the room on two sheets of paper, leaving a space between each name.

Then she told them to think of the nicest thing they could say about each of their classmates and write it down.

It took the remainder of the class period to finish their assignment, and as the students left the room, each one handed in the papers.

That Saturday, the teacher wrote down the name of each student on a separate sheet of paper, and listed what everyone else had said about that individual.

On Monday she gave each student his or her list. Before long, the entire class was smiling. "Really?" she heard whispered. "I never knew that I meant anything to anyone!" and, "I didn't know others liked me so much." were most of the comments.

No one ever mentioned those papers in class again. She never knew if they discussed them after class or with their parents, but it didn't matter. The exercise had accomplished its purpose. The students were happy with themselves and one another. That group of students moved on.

Several years later, one of the students was killed in Viet Nam and his teacher attended the funeral of that special student. She had never seen a serviceman in a military coffin before. He looked so handsome, so mature.

The church was packed with his friends. One by one those who loved him took a last walk by the coffin. The teacher was the last one to bless the coffin.

As she stood there, one of the soldiers who acted as pallbearer came up to her. "Were you Mark's math teacher?" he asked. She nodded: "yes." Then he said: "Mark talked about you a lot."

After the funeral, most of Mark's former classmates went together to a luncheon. Mark's mother and father were there, obviously waiting to speak with his teacher.

"We want to show you something," his father said, taking a wallet out of his pocket. "They found this on Mark when he was killed. We thought you might recognize it."

Opening the billfold, he carefully removed two worn pieces of notebook paper that had obviously been taped, folded and refolded many times. The teacher knew without looking that the papers were the ones on which she had listed all the good things each of Mark's classmates had said about him.

"Thank you so much for doing that," Mark's mother said. "As you can see, Mark treasured it."

All of Mark's former classmates started to gather around. Charlie smiled rather sheepishly and said, "I still have my list. It's in the top drawer of my desk at home."

Chuck's wife said, "Chuck asked me to put his in our wedding album."

"I have mine too," Marilyn said. "It's in my diary."

Then Vicki, another classmate, reached into her pocketbook, took out her wallet and showed her worn and frazzled list to the group. "I carry this with me at all times," Vicki said and without batting an eyelash, she continued: "I think we all saved our lists."

That's when the teacher finally sat down and cried. She cried for Mark and for all his friends who would never see him again.

The density of people in society is so thick that we forget that life will end one day. And we don't know when that one day will be.

So please, tell the people you love and care for, that they are special and important. Tell them, before it is too late.

How many pets do you have? 5

What are there names? Taylor, Wrinkles, Mickey, Minnie & Snoopy

What are they? Taylor is a Yorkie mix, Wrinkles is half Sharpei/half pitbull and the others are Cocketiels

What is the best thing they have ever done? loving me is all I ever need :)

What is the worst thing they have ever done? LOL Taylor has eaten the rug in front of the door in my bedroom and the door frame in the bathroom because he doesn't like to be left alone .... Wrinkles has torn wall paper right off the wall when he was a puppy

Do they do any tricks? The normal.... sit, stay, give me your paw, lay down :) Mickey can say "Mickey is a pretty bird" and "Hi Mickey"

Anyone who really knows me knows I'm a Country music lover!! Which is not a common thing here in MA .... but hey what do I care right? LOL Anyway this song is just beautiful and is the theme song from the movie Fly Away Home... this was one of the first country songs I heard and really loved so of course that makes it all the more special to me :)
